Spiritual Treasures To Keep

That good thing which was committed unto you, keep by the Holy Ghost which dwells in us (I Timothy 1:14).

Although I didn’t realize it at the time, through the Holy Spirit my grandmother taught me some basic spiritual truths which I now consider spiritual treasures to this very day.

Imparting and keeping spiritual truths is a very scriptural thing to do.

A first spiritual treasure she invested in my heart is that it is not how well nor how long we pray, but what happens when we pray that really counts. From that I learned that it is not how well we witness or preach, but what happens when we witness or preach that counts most.

A second spiritual treasure she invested in me is that God’s anointing is not an inalienable gift, but a conditional gift available to every yielded vessel through the power of the Holy Spirit. His anointing comes - and continues - through an ongoing intimate spiritual relationship with the Lord.

Say what you will about some of those old-timers, I’ll say this for her; she not only had a time to pray, she prayed in between times. Although she was reared with very little formal education, she yet had enough power with God to pray heaven down and hell out. Through her, I leaned the true meaning of the term “prayer warrior.”

A third spiritual treasure she invested in me is that living in the Spirit embodies a supernatural lifestyle day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment. Even as she slept in the next room, as a boy I would hear her “praying in the Spirit” long into the night seasons. To her, living in the Spirit was an exciting lifestyle 24/7.

Sometimes I wonder what specific spiritual treasures are we investing in our own families and circle of friends? Are we rearing a whole generation void of many real spiritual treasures to keep in their hearts?

Who we are - imparts spiritual treasures more than what we say.

Prayer

Father God, we continually realize how much we miss when we
fail to commune with You in ongoing, personal, intimate prayer.

May we avoid the futility and frustration of prayerlessness
to the weariness of our minds,
the exhaustion of our body,
and the trial of our faith.

Let us experience the constant help of the Holy Spirit in remaking
our very lives in constant communion and spiritual intimacy with
You - through Your blessed Spirit. - Amen
